Dimension Records was an iconic record label founded in 1962 in New York City by visionary music executives Don Kirshner and Al Nevins, owners of the legendary Aldon Music.
The label was instrumental in shaping the iconic "girl group sound" and served as a prime showcase for timeless songwriting masters Gerry Goffin and Carole King. Their historic composition "The Loco-Motion", performed by Little Eva, delivered the label's biggest international breakthrough. Background vocals on the track were performed by The Cookies, who went on to create their own hits under the label, including "Chains"—a classic that was famously covered by The Beatles. In the United Kingdom, Dimension's releases were licensed through London Records.
When Aldon Music was acquired by Columbia Pictures, Dimension Records transitioned alongside it. This era produced another celebrated hit: Big Dee Irwin's "Swinging on a Star", featuring an uncredited appearance by Little Eva on Colpix Records in the UK (1963).
Over time, the historic catalog was acquired by Roulette Records, and later preserved by Rhino Records—now a prestigious unit of Warner Music Group. Today, North American catalog rights are maintained by Rhino, while Warner's Parlophone unit oversees rights across the rest of the world.
